China must respect Peru's development model, Prime Minister says

While relations with China are increasingly important, Peru intends to ensure the Asian giant respects its environment and workers, Prime Minister Salomón Lerner said.
Lerner said the administration of newly elected President Ollanta Humala is following a distinct model of social inclusion and development that differs from China's. "We aren't following the Chinese model ... but they are welcome here," he said, referring to the substantial Chinese investments that have funded major infrastructure, mining and energy projects in Peru. Several of those projects have been a source of apprehension among some officials and of concern among local citizens.
